The Girl in the Blue Coat By Monica Hesse
I am a huge fan of Holocaust books, as well as a lot of other people are as well. Something about the history of it and all of the different situations people were put in just attract viewers. The Girl in the Blue Coat was something a little bit different than most other Holocaust books I’ve read. It was the story of a girl names Hanneke who worked for a funeral director by means of the black market. She then is asked to find a missing Jewish girl by one of her clients, and from there the story sends her on her journey and has her meet new people in the process of fighting back against the Nazis. I can honestly say that i expected a bit more from the novel. I expected more situations of Hanneke almost getting caught in the works of revolt. The story ended with so many twists and turns that it was a bit difficult to follow and you really had to think about how it all fit together and related to each other. The story ended very drearily, which was not at all what I expected going into the initial reading of the book. Overall, I would recommend reading the book, but if you do, read it extremely thoroughly so that you are able to understand the ending a bit better.
